What Is VCSC? The Ventura County Swim Conference is a Novice Swim League similar to Local YMCA Leagues, City Swim Leagues, and other Swim Leagues not associated with USA Swimming. We are made up of three teams. One Team in Simi Valley, one Team in Thousand Oaks, and another Team in Newbury Park. The Conference competitions are attended by Conference Teams and some outside novice teams as well. How are we different? First difference is that we are associated with the USA Swimming Team, Conejo Simi Swim Club (CSSC). CSSC recognizes the fact that joining a year round team without any introduction to the sport is a very difficult choice as you have no idea whether or not your child will enjoy the sport of swimming. These Seasonal Programs offer a chance for young people to experience the sport of swimming on a seasonal basis. The biggest difference is that we don't just stop with a seasonal program, but also offer 6 levels of stroke development and training on the year round club level. When a child makes the decision to try to reach the next level in the sport we don't just recommend some other places you can go to get this opportunity, but provide the program ourselves as the club has done so for over 35 years. What are the practices like for the seasonal program compared to the Year Round Club practices? The Seasonal program will be very similar to our first and second level of the year round club. The difference being that they will be able to swim month to month as desired rather than season by season. It will also allow swimmers to compete in USA Swimming swim meets, that means they will have official times and will have the many benefits of being a member of USA Swimming including a subscription to Splash Magazine, trackable times, participation in recognition programs (such as IMR and IMX), and the goal setting opportunities as young swimmers reach to qualify for larger meets. |
